During covid, my mother started her home baking business. She sold Singaporean treats such as radish kueh, chiffon pandan cake, and our homemade bread recipes (that took many months to perfect using our bread makers at home).

CRM
Reply individually to customers through Whatsapp groups, and Instagram direct messages. This was both time-consuming and low yield.
Common Issues that surfaced:
Everyone was asking the same questions, she had to constantly repeat herself
No platform to consolidate orders, everything liaised through WhatsApp and the consolidation of orders and summation of product quantities, etc was done manually herself.
Operations
Keying in by hand orders for each menu item into excel as well as liaising on final output for production.
The final amount payable was also done manually for the goods ordered
Liaising with a delivery man, keying in individual orders online
Print out order forms so that delivery personnel knew who and where to deliver the goods to.
Based on this, I consolidated the entire lifecycle of her operations and the needs as well as constraints at each module. Read on to hear about how I tackled them!

As a small home baking business, it is hard to justify costs borne by major e-commerce platforms like Shopify.
Requires liaising via WhatsApp as that was the most familiar platform for my mother as well as her customer base. This is something that eventually shifts, once her business began to scale.
Within each module, I have also highlighted module-specific constraints and challenges. Deep dive into the following pages!
